Whiskey in the Morning

I suppose there's worse things I could be writing than sappy country songs....

____

Whiskey in the Morning

There was a time I'd play a song
And she'd sit there and hum along
Strumming her fingers
Tapping her toes
Saying she loves me so everybody knows

Now I don't play anymore
It's not like it was before
Packing her bag
Saying goodbye
Never gave us a chance to try

I guess…

It was her choice
It was her time
Didn't seem to be a reason or rhyme
She left our love without warning
Now I'm drinking whiskey in the morning

Riding along in my Jeep
Can't remember last time I had sleep
Radio's playing
Wheels keep turning
The tears in my eyes are still burning

I guess…

It was her choice
It was her time
Didn't seem to be a reason or rhyme
She left our love without warning
Now I'm drinking whiskey in the morning

Should have known it wasn't going to last
We both had too much in our past

Still…

It wasn't my choice
I thought for sure this time
Didn't seem to be a reason or rhyme
She left our love without warning
Now I'm drinking whiskey in the morning

Sittin on the porch
Sippin my glass
Part of me wants to tell her kiss my ass

But that's not how I am
Could never be that way
So many other words I want to say

Don't make it your choice
Let's try harder this time
Doesn't have to be a reason or rhyme
Come back to me this morning
So this whiskey will stop pouring

It was her choice
It was her time
Didn't seem to be a reason or rhyme
She left our love without warning
Now I'm drinking whiskey in the morning
